Here we are then the event report for our biggest party so far this year – The Scout Centenary”
We arrived and was escorted to the marquee to enable us to set up our mics and do our sound checks the sound rig (which was enormous) was already on site from the night before so that was something we did not have to worry about and the sound engineer Mike was an absolute diamond of a chap, sound done and we had time for a bit of a chill before the onset of the evening,
It was at this point that the organizer Claire came over for a quick chat to make sure that everything was ok with us and that we were ready – “Oh yes. We were ready”
The first session was for the younger ones and it was just incredible at the sheer numbers in from of us!!! Our brief was to simply ENTERTAIN them with our usual silliness and chaos and boy did we deliver.
We even had time to throw in a couple of quick games with some very willing volunteers and we had to choose 6 from about 500 people.
The time went surprisingly quick and it was time to end the first session with a deafening chant from everyone shouting for more more more.
So after “One More” we went into a short interval so that the younger ones could be herded out of the marquee and gave us a chance to catch our breath and grab a much needed drink.
The second part of the evening was the older ones, again about 500 people including “Explorer’s” who are 14 – 18yr olds and this is an age group I don’t normally do so it was going to be interesting.
However, they were no problem at all and boy did they come to party!!!! They were up for anything so after a quick chat with my team we decided to just continue with the party style of the first half and it worked well, very well in fact and the two best songs were Queen – Don’t stop me now but the best and loudest without question was Kings of Leon – Your sex is on fire which hurt my ears due to how loud the were singing and combined with the jumping up and down clapping was a sight to behold from the stage I can tell you.
So, I would very much like to thank the following people:
Claire from the scouting organization for booking us
Robert for recommending us in the first place to Claire and also making our coffee.
Mike for the superb job with the sound and lighting
Tammy & Flyboy from my team who were really fantastic
But the biggest thank you must go to every cub – scout & explorer who can say “I was there” you made the event what it was and I than you all.
